The Legislature is wrapping up. The 2021-2022 session brought some ups and downs. Most of our priority bills, ranging from voting rights to Clean Elections and campaign finance reform, from election administration to racial justice, have been signed into law or are heading in that direction! Stay tuned for a post-session wrap up, when we'll celebrate all the good bills that crossed the finished line and became laws.

There's been some drama-rama in the Maine Legislature. Originally the session was scheduled to conclude last Wednesday, April 20, but following some heated talks and pleas for extensions, the 130th Legislature will conclude with final chamber votes today, April 25. Cheers to a good run. 

The League relies on valuable volunteers to get the work done. From registering new voters to non-partisan election observation, we're always up to something. All in the name of empowering voters and making democracy work. 
 

The current session is scheduled to conclude this Wednesday, April 20. There'll be a flurry of activity at the State House this week, and some of us will be constantly refreshing our Twitter feeds. The biggest updates as we near the finish line are listed here with a few Take Action items highlighted in yellow. 

We can’t leave anything to chance. Now's the time to make sure LD 231 gets funded and signed into law. Send an email today and ask senators to take it off the special appropriations table. 

It seems like every week there's a flurry of news and information to soak in. In case you missed it, we're here to deliver some of the good news: Governor Mills recently signed LD 859, An Act To Give Municipalities More Options in Municipal Elections, into law!

Don't forget: the current session is scheduled to conclude April 20. Two more bills have crossed the finish line, while others are still up in the air (like audits, semi-open primaries, and the tribal sovereignty bill). The next ten days will be crunch time for some important bills that need funding in the budget. 

In the face of the pandemic, election workers put their lives on the line to do their jobs, allowing us to cast our votes safely and securely, and then counting every one of them to ensure our voices could be heard. We’ll celebrate their hard work on April 12 by thanking them in person. Join us!

In about two weeks, the 130th Legislature will come to a close. It looks like most of our priority bills may make it across the finish line. It's been a good run.
